I grabbed the fancy cup of coffee I ordered from the barista with gorgeous black curly afro-styled hair behind the counter. Her dark eyes twinkled at me as I smiled appreciatively and mumbled "thanks" before heading to a small round corner table with Kit. My feet were killing me. I took a tentative sip of the icy beverage before settling myself into one of the many mismatched chairs.

“This place is ridiculously cute,” Kit muttered, looking around as she crossed one knee over the other.

"Yeah," I agreed. Not a single chair or table matched, giving the entire little coffee house a rustic, charming feel to it. Boatloads of coffee-related knickknack type of artwork, photos, signs, and more littered the walls, and big, wide windows faced the bustling street where we parked our rental outside. The narrow, one-way street was crowded with cute little shops, with everything from boutiques to coffee shops, to antique stores bursting at the seams, a small home-style pharmacy with the front windows covered in crafty paint, a gently used thrift store, a bicycle shop, and others.

There was hardly a parking spot to be found and most of the stores had people either coming or going. It looked like a typical Friday afternoon to me. It’s already been a long day and I hoped the iced caramel macchiato would give my brain the jolt it needed to keep going. We had more stores to hit but already the back of the car and the trunk were filling up quickly.

The cafe had a small line of people who either sank into one of the different chairs, or headed back outside into the cool June day, either to get back to work or head off to wherever it was they needed to be.

The slap of a notepad on the table next to me drew my attention back to our small nook. Kit had a pen in hand and was crossing items off of her very, very long list. Or I should say my list. Thankfully that list was looking shorter and shorter.

I sighed happily. “What's next?”

She stuck the end of the pen into the corner of her mouth and chewed on it. Gross, but that was a Kit move. "Think we need to hit up the furniture place next. Sticklers has the best reviews for that sort of thing. If we're lucky, you can pick out both your bedroom, dining, and living room furniture in one go."

I nodded. “Sounds like a plan.”

“After that, we just need bedding. I didn't like any of the options at the last two stores.”

“Me either. Too girly for my taste. I want something simple.”

“Maybe they'll have some things to choose from at Sticklers.”

I hoped so. I was getting tired of running around. God, I hope this coffee hits the spot.

“We've done really good so far, though,” I admitted, looking out the big window at the car. I could see piles of junk in the backseat, and I knew the trunk was practically stuffed full. Hampers
